Most people open accounts, credit cards, and debit cards every year to get their money safe and build credit. However, every year most people get their identity and money stolen. Consequently, our money and identity are no longer safe. It is time for us to take charge of this situation and not let only the institutions take care of our money and identity. Every year, thieves get more creative ways to steal our hard earn money and identity; as a result, we, “the victims,” must take charge and leave aside our role of victims. We must take control and follow these easy steps to prevent these abuses against us.
Even though institutions have to take care of people’s personal information, it can be challenging and vulnerable. These sometimes give the opportunity to thieves to steal easily. As a result, you are the only one who can give yourself personal control over your money and identity. Checking your statements regularly is essential even if you see a charge of $0.1, call your bank; do not let the amount deceive you. Nowadays, thieves get account numbers and charge minor amounts; if you do not state something, thieves will go for larger quantities. Be aware that
“Every 2 seconds, someone became a victim of this crime.”
According to Enterprises TV, there will always be signs of identity theft, so you will probably be less likely to get your money and identity stolen after you are aware of these signs. Bank account numbers are stolen, as well as debit and credit cards. Therefore, keeping your cards safe is the key; if you pay with your credit card, you must always pay attention and put your card back in your wallet. Sometimes distraction can play against us. If you have to double-check your wallet, do it! It will take about a minute, but it will save you from becoming a victim. According to Eva Velasquez, (president and CEO of Identity Theft Resource Center), she says:
“If you take five minutes to follow up on something that’s out of the ordinary, weird, or just doesn’t make sense, you could save yourself a lot of headaches later on.”
Therefore, take charge of your accounts, credit, and debit cards. Do not become a victim; many resources are available to avoid this problem. However, if you believe your identity has been stolen, report it to the three credit bureaus: Equifax, TransUnion, Experian, your bank institution, and Federal Trade Commission.
After all, we are responsible for our finance and identity; do not let this responsibility be done by someone else. Take responsibility for your money and identity. In the end, you will be the only one affected by it.
Get fun, take control, and live as fully and pleasantly as possible.
